Fascinating look at how innovation is powerfully affected by where we choose to base ourselves from the New York Times.

Touches on the work of Richard Florida's "Rise of the Creative Class" & the migration of bright minds to certain cities.

Ah, the digital nomad discussion we had a while back? Is this an expression of that discussion? I've been wondering which form the product of that discussion could take.

indeed Paul from that, from the lectures on globalization, from feeling the tide of brilliant people trickling out.

We have the luxury of being able to take our talent/ knowledge capital almost anywhere in the world because we work in the digital sphere for the most part. So why exactly do we stay?

Max I think you ask a good question. "Why do we stay". As someone that lives between the USA and Cape Town. I sometimes wonder if we have to stay? Yet, sometimes there are moments when you must choose and that choice is never easy. What do you consider? Money? Career? Friends? Family? etc....they all are important.
But - the digital age gives us freedoms and sometimes these choices are harder to make because of that.

The freedom provided by technology, as Saul explains here, is increasing and becoming increasingly important. Important not for what it is in itself, but rather that it makes career or work less of a factor in deciding where you spend your time.

Surely then family and other non-work related factors will play much more of a role in deciding location.

Isn't that the way it's supposed to be anyway!?
